Podcast Launch Playbook
Audio is hard to search. An episode can cover exactly what someone is looking for and still never appear for their question. A page per episode, with notes, the main points and links, gives each one a written form people can find and skim. This playbook sets that up for a new podcast.
Who this is for
Hosts and small teams launching a podcast who want listeners to find episodes from search.
Before you start
- A podcast website or blog where episode pages can live.
- A hosting service that provides a feed and listening links.
- Transcripts or detailed notes for each episode.
- Permission from guests to publish their names, bios and links.
Step 1
Plan episode pages
Decide what every episode page contains.
- Define a standard episode page: summary, main points, guest bio, links and listening options.
- List the questions your show answers that people search for in writing.
- Choose topics for a few evergreen articles that collect related episodes.
- Plan the publishing step into your episode release routine.
Step 2
Create episode notes and topic articles
Turn each episode into something readable.
- Write episode notes from the transcript, summarising the main points in plain language.
- Publish the transcript, if you have one, below the notes.
- Write topic articles that bring together what several episodes say about one subject.
- Check every guest detail and link with the guest.
Step 3
Publish with each episode
Release the page and the audio together.
- Publish the episode page when the episode goes live.
- Link each episode page to related episodes and topic articles.
- Link episode pages from the show notes in podcast apps.
- Update topic articles when new episodes add to them.
Step 4
Measure listeners from search
See which written pages bring listeners.
- Check which episode pages and articles appear in search in your search console.
- Track clicks from episode pages to listening apps.
- Ask listeners how they found the show.
- Fix broken guest links and outdated details on older episodes.
Common pitfalls
- Episode pages with only a title and an audio player.
- Publishing guest details without checking them with the guest.
- Topic articles that stop being updated as the show grows.
