Create and use brand voices

A brand voice is a name and a page of guidelines describing how your articles should sound. Set one as the project default, or pick one per article or Autopilot schedule.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open the project’s brand voices

Go to Projects & integrations, open the project and choose Brand voices.

  2. Step 2: Create a voice

Choose New brand voice. Give it a Name (for example “Helpful Teacher”) and write the Prompt guidelines: how articles should sound, what to explain, words to prefer or avoid. Choose Create voice.

Write guidelines about tone and style. They rank below the article’s facts and structure, so they cannot override your keyword, outline or the article’s own settings.

  3. Step 3: Set the project default

Choose the star icon (Set as default) on the voice new articles in this project should use. The current default is marked Default.

  4. Step 4: Choose a voice per article

On the article form, open Advanced settings and use Tone / brand voice to pick a different voice — or one of the standard tones — for that article only. Autopilot schedules have the same choice.

  5. Step 5: Archive a voice you no longer use

Choose the archive icon on the voice. Archived voices cannot be chosen for new articles, but articles and schedules that used one keep the copy they were given. Restore it from Archived brand voices at any time.

What you’ll see

New articles in the project follow the default voice, and any article or schedule can use another. Editing a voice affects work started afterwards, not articles already written.

Troubleshooting

“View only” on the Brand voices page

Only workspace owners and admins can manage voices. Ask one of them, or choose an existing voice on the article form.

I cannot create another voice

Your plan limits how many brand voices the workspace can have in total. Archive one you no longer use, or compare plans on the pricing page.

A voice is marked as paused by my plan

After a downgrade, voices over the new limit are paused, not deleted. See After a plan downgrade.

  • Choose an image style

Set the look of a project’s AI images once — photographic, illustration, flat vector and more — and override it for a single article or image when you need to.

  • Set up Autopilot

Give a project a schedule and a queue of approved topics, and Autopilot writes, illustrates and — if you allow it — publishes an article on each run.
