Generate an article: every option on the form
What each field on the article form does — length, sources, audience, voice, language, article type, FAQ and takeaways sections, and the featured image.
Before you start
A project, and enough credits for an article — the form shows the cost and your balance after it before anything is charged.
Optional: a content brief or article outline to build from — see Create a content brief.
Steps
Step 1: Describe the article
Open Generate article from the sidebar. Under What should we write?:
- Project — the site the article is for. Its profile (business, audience, language, voice) is used throughout.
- Target keyword — the phrase you want the article to rank for.
- Working title (optional) — leave blank and we will write one.
- Build from a brief or outline (optional) — shown when you have one. The article inherits its research, audience and search intent.
Step 2: Choose the length
Approximate length has two modes:
- Auto picks a length that suits the topic and the structure the article needs, using your outline or brief where there is one.
- Custom shows a Target length slider, up to your plan’s maximum.
Either way it is a target, not a hard limit, and the cost is the same at any length.
Step 3: Adjust the advanced settings (optional)
Open Advanced settings to override the project’s defaults for this article only:
- Target audience, Tone / brand voice, Language and Target country.
- Article type — leave it on Let the planner decide, or fix a format such as a how-to or a listicle.
- Brand notes — angles to take or avoid, competitors not to mention, terminology you prefer.
- Include an FAQ section and Include a key takeaways section — both on by default. Turn them off if your site adds its own FAQ block or summary.
- Automatically generate featured image and Image style — on plans that include images. The included image costs no credits.
Step 4: Pick a title
Choose Generate title options, then pick one under Choose a title (free, and Show me 5 more gives new options). Choose Confirm selected title, or Back to details to change the form.
Step 5: Confirm and generate
Check the Generate this article? summary — title, keyword, length, sections, image, cost, Paid from and Balance after — and choose Generate for … credits.
What you’ll see
The draft is written in the background and opens in the article workspace when it is ready. If the generation fails, the held credits are refunded automatically one hour later.
Troubleshooting
“Article is longer than your plan allows”
Your plan caps article length. Lower the Target length, switch to Auto, or compare plans on the pricing page.
“Featured images are not included on your plan.”
The image switch is disabled on plans without images. Everything else on the form works as usual.
“Generation credit limit reached”
Your workspace has committed a lot of credits to generation in a short period. The message says when you can start again; wait until then. Credits already spent are not affected.
I picked the wrong language or region
Change it on the article afterwards with Change language and region. Existing text is not translated — see Content language and region.
